Does the type and grade of motor oil matter?
Yes, choosing the correct engine oil for your vehicle matters a great deal. It’s always recommended that you use OEM engine oil, per your owner’s manual. The wrong grade or viscosity can cause irreparably damage to your engine and engine components.
To ensure the proper functioning of your vehicle’s engine, we usually suggest the following:
- ACDelco Gold Conventional Oil
- ACDelco dexos1 Full Synthetic Oil
- Motor 1 Full Synthetic Oil
However, we do have access to a wide range of motor oil, including OEM GM engine oil. Speak with your auto service technician if you have questions or concerns about your oil change service.
Do I need an oil change every 3,000 miles?
Unless your vehicle uses conventional motor oil and you drive in very dirty or dusty conditions, you probably don’t need to get an oil change every 3,000 miles. Most synthetic blends can last 5,000 miles or more, while full-synthetic oil can stand 7,500 or even 15,000 miles before needing to be replaced.
Always consult your owner’s manual or an oil change mechanic near you.
Should I change my own oil?
Performing a DIY oil change is cheaper than visiting even the cheapest oil change shop near you. However, changing your car oil often presents numerous inconveniences that aren’t worth the couple bucks you save. Here are a few reasons why you should let a professional change your oil:
- Various safety concerns exist when using oil change ramps of jacks, especially cheap ones.
- Recycling oil is a pain in the you-know-what.
- Stains can soak into your garage or driveway.
- Contaminate your drainage after oil spills.
- The best oil change shop will guarantee their parts and labor.
- Oil change coupons can help reduce costs.
- Up-front costs of buying oil change parts and gear are quite high.
- You don’t have to change your oil in the cold, winter months.
- Auto service technicians can identify any other pressing or potential problems with your car.
- It’s dirty. (Ick.)
